The global response was quicker and more forceful than I ever could have imagined. People were up in arms that their beloved governments would spy on them to the extent that they had been, control every aspect of their lives, and hide such large amounts of information from them. Calls for action were loud, clear, and extremely hostile from all over the world. Even the sleazy politicians who had benefited greatly from this system had to speak up against the IGBI in an attempt to save their careers. There was simply nothing the IGBI could do but relinquish control of the internet, turn it all over the private sector, and try its best to wash its hands of this enormous mess that it had created.
Remember, I had set myself up nicely as I controlled most of the companies that could handle such a transition in a timely manner and were not connected to government monitoring programs in anyway at all. Soon, the power of the internet was being handed over to my trusted, morally sound corporations. I cannot say that I was surprised, after all, I had left them with no choice.
Once the transition was complete, which took a few years, I made sure that everyone under my control worked tirelessly to prove to the public that the days of government surveillance and censorship were in the rearview mirror. We had finally entered an age of true internet utopianism. Of course, between you and me, I picked up right where the IGBI left off. I continued to collect data, and the elite continued to receive it. Only difference was that now I was the middle man which allowed me to sell the information and consequently earning more money than God himself could ever dream of. What can I say? Sometimes you are just in the right place at the right time. I sure was.
